이 블렌드는 레이어(layer)에 관한 와인입니다. 대담한 보르도 스타일(Bordeaux-esque)의 레드 와인이지만, 높은 비율의 카베르네 프랑과 말벡 덕분에 놀라울 만큼 섬세한 디테일을 느낄 수 있습니다.
2022년은 매우 농축된 빈티지였기 때문에 카베르네 소비뇽이 깊고 구조적인 기반을 만들어 주고, 다른 품종들은 보다 부드럽고 플로럴한 면을 더해 와인이 아직 젊은 상태에서도 충분히 접근하기 쉽게 느껴지게 합니다.
향에서는 마치 두 세계가 아름답게 만나는 느낌을 줍니다. 카베르네 소비뇽에서 오는 클래식한 카시스와 블랙체리의 향이 먼저 느껴지고, 이어서 카베르네 프랑이 으깬 바이올렛 꽃, 말린 세이지, 그리고 연필심 같은 향을 섬세하게 엮어 넣습니다.
마지막으로 말벡이 자두와 블루베리의 과실 향을 더해 주면서, 전체적인 부케는 풍부하고 어두운 과실의 깊이와 함께 매우 복합적인 느낌을 만들어 냅니다.
전체적으로는 마치 세련된 저녁의 분위기 같은 향입니다—풍부한 과실 향 위에 차갑고 돌 같은 미네랄이 균형을 잡아 줍니다.
입안에서는 이 블렌드의 “팀워크(teamwork)”가 가장 잘 느껴집니다. 첫 느낌은 풍부하고 과실 중심이지만, 곧바로 무게감 있는 미드 팔레트(mid-palate)로 이어집니다.
카베르네 소비뇽의 단단한 타닌이 구조를 잡아 주고 있지만, 그 타닌은 말벡이 주는 벨벳 같은 질감과 풍부한 과즙감 속에 부드럽게 감싸져 있습니다.
피니시에서는 다크 초콜릿과 에스프레소의 풍미, 그리고 약간의 감칠맛이 있는 스파이스가 느껴집니다.
구조가 탄탄하고 숙성 잠재력도 있지만, 파소 로블스 특유의 밝은 산도가 처음 한 모금부터 마지막까지 와인을 생동감 있고 균형 있게 유지해 줍니다.
Tasting Notes
This blend is all about layers. It's a bold, “Bordeaux-esque” red that manages to feel incredibly detailed thanks to the high percentage of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Because 2022 was such a concentrated vintage, the Cabernet Sauvignon provides a deep, architectural foundation, while the other varieties bring in a softer, more floral side that makes the wine feel approachable even in its youth.
On the nose, it's a beautiful collision of worlds. You get the classic cassis and black cherry from the Cabernet Sauvignon, but the Cabernet Franc weaves in these really pretty notes of crushed violets, dried sage, and pencil lead. The Malbec adds a final pop of plum and blueberry, making the whole bouquet feel rich, dark, and wonderfully complex. It smells like a sophisticated evening—rich fruit tempered by a cool, stony minerality.
The palate is where you really feel the “teamwork” of the blend. The entry is lush and fruit-forward, but it quickly develops a serious mid-palate weight. Those Cabernet Sauvignon tannins are present and firm, but they're “clothed” in the velvety, juicy texture of the Malbec. You'll find flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, and a hint of savory spice on the finish. It's structured and age-worthy, but that bright Paso Robles acidity keeps it lively and balanced from the first sip to the last.
